Emily Kaitz

February 12, 2000
Emily Kaitz has a unique ability to demonstrate that life is a hoot. She can take things seriously, but never for long. She says that her songs, recordings, and in fact her entire music career, “is kind of like the sticky translucent trail that a slug leaves behind as it slithers along.” We might not agree with the metaphor completely, but considering the source, it makes perfect sense. Songs like “Shallow End of the Gene Pool”, “The Day the Bass Players Took Over the World”, “Yuppie Scum”, “The M-Word Scares the F-Word Out of Me”, and of course, “Pico De Gallo” are just a few examples of the wit and intelligence Emily draws from. Her songs have been covered by other artists like Trout Fishing in America, The Therapy Sisters, Jon Ims, and The Austin Lounge Lizards all of which have been enchanted by her integrity, style, and attention to detail. Others have described Emily with adjectives such as twisted, quirky, eccentric, and strangely humorous but always in tones of endearment. Emily makes you laugh and leaves you wondering where she comes up with this stuff.

Originally from suburban Alexandria, Virginia, Emily spent several years writing, performing, and collaborating with other musicians in the Austin area. While there, she became very well known and loved for her personality and work throughout the music community. Now residing in Fayetteville, Arkansas, she continues reflecting on life’s humorous side as she consistently points out the obviously ridiculous but overlooked. We are extremely pleased and honored to bring Emily Kaitz to the Texas Nights House Concerts’ stage for a show that promises to make you laugh till it hurts.

Diane Craig opens
We happened in to the Old Quarter some time ago and heard a new voice in the place. Diane Craig had just moved to the area, and has since become somewhat of a regular down there. Diane brings a special style and charm to each performance…a little bit folk, a little bit country. Diane was a regular on Writers’ Night at the Bluebird Café in Nashville before moving to Texas and has performed with members of the Del McCoury Band, The Nashville Bluegrass Band, and the Lonesome River Band to name a few. She has recently released her first CD, “Between the Sun and My Shadow”, with backup from such notable pickers as Ronnie McCoury, Kenny Smith, and Rick Rorex. She is currently working on her second CD to be released later this year featuring all original material. You’ll be hearing much more from Diane Craig in the future, so don’t miss this opportunity to see her first right here on the deck. Visit Diane’s web site at http://members.aol.com/dcraig1007/ .
