Another original goal set for TNC will finally be met as we proudly present Kimmie Rhodes on the deck! Texas music is difficult to define, but when you hear Kimmie there’s no question that you’ve heard the real thing. With a voice as clear as a Texas spring, melodies as rolling as the hill country, credits as vast as the West Texas plains, and the beauty of bluebonnets in the Spring, Kimmie Rhodes is a unique Texas treasure. She has performed and collaborated with artists such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Townes Van Zandt, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver, Emmylou Harris…and the list goes on forever! Willie says Kimmie is “an undiscovered superstar” and together they recorded two of her originals for his album Just One Love. Kimmie’s 1996 CD West Texas Heaven features 12 of her original songs and includes duets with Waylon Jennings, Townes Van Zandt, and Willie Nelson. USA Today picked it as one of the Top Ten Country Records of 1996. Her new CD, Rich From the Journey, scheduled for release later this Spring, promises to continue the rich tradition of quality, beauty, and style characteristic of everything Kimmie has done.
With her son, Gabe Rhodes, on lead guitar, and husband, Joe Gracey, on bass, this is a family band that will warm your heart and lift your spirit to dance with the Texas stars. Gabe’s talent and growing body of work surpasses that of most twice his age as he continues to develop his own style and reputation in the music industry. Joe has been a cornerstone of the Texas music scene for more than three decades and is credited by many for the
conception and development of the “progressive country” movement in the early 70’s. Together, Kimmie, Joe, and Gabe deliver a wonderful performance with a stage presence that seems to radiate joy, love, and all things Texas. Kimmie Rhodes is, without question, one of our personal favorites. Come to this show to see why and you’ll make her your own. Grady Lee opens
To set the mood for the night, we’re bringing back Grady Lee to kick things off. Many of you will remember Grady from last July’s show when he opened at TNC for Charlie Robison. What you might not know is that Grady Lee is an official ambassador of Texas performing for groups all across the state, as well as the country, whenever the Texas Bureau of Tourism needs to showcase our great tradition of music. Grady performs with K.R. Wood’s Fathers of Texas Band, as well as with the Grady Lee Band and solo shows. Traditional cowboy songs form the foundation of Grady’s styling, but his repertoire extends to folk, rock, and progressive country with a few more surprises thrown in from time to time. Grady Lee is a big man with a heart as big as Texas…you’ll love this guy!
For the love of the song
