Wrecks Bell

CD Release Party for “Dog’s Life
Sunday, August 6, 2000
Last February, an awesome group of musicians gathered at Firehouse Studios in San Marcos to work on a long awaited project, the recording of Rex Bell’s new CD.  We were there to see how it all came together.  The night before, Wrecks commented that he couldn’t believe all these guys were coming to work on his CD.  The next day, there were several quite comments floating around the studio like, “I can’t believe we’re here working with THE Wrecks Bell.”  As they started laying down the tracks we knew something special was happening.  Finally, almost six months later, the CD is here and it’s time to celebrate.  Known by most as the sideman for Lightnin’ Hopkins then for Townes Van Zandt as well as the bass and harmony vocals on Lucinda Williams “Happy Woman Blues,” Wrecks Bell finally steps out to center stage with this stellar debut CD.  Produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard, it includes an excellent cast of musicians painting the background while holding true to Wrecks’ style and spirit.

“Hubbard used the rock solid Austin section of Paul Pearcy on drums and Glen Fukunaga on bass, and the accordion of Augie Meyers floats in and out of several selections.  Those funny love songs must have some merit, because sometime between the recording and the release of “Dog’s Life,” that rascal Wrecks got married.  With a brand new CD and a brand new wife, Wrecks Bell is ready to ride the blue wind high and free.  Townes would be pleased.”  Larry Monroe, KUT Radio in Austin

“Dog’s Life” is worthy of a celebration and we hope you will join us to help us do it right.

Diane Craig and Grady Lee Open
Two great friends will help celebrate this event by sharing a few of their own songs.  Diane Craig was here last February and Grady Lee opened our show in March.  Diane has her own style of country/folk and is featured on the last cut of “Dog’s Life” singing her song, “Ghost of Townes Van Zandt.”  Grady blends traditional cowboy songs and a little of everything else with a stage presence you won’t forget. We’re pleased to welcome them both back to help congratulate Wrecks for this great project.

For the love of the song
