**Shake Russell stepped in at the last minute to fill in when Cliff cancelled due to illness**
Breaking our tradition of hosting Texas artists isn’t something we take lightly. But, occasionally a performer passes through that we just have to share with our friends. Cliff Eberhardt certainly fits…that’s right, he’s not from Texas, but Texas wants him anyway! Eberhardt is a songwriter and performer of remarkable passion and wit. Compatriots have long admired his work, with artists like Richie Havens, Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky, and Buffy St. Marie recording his songs. Cliff first hit the club circuit with his brother at age 15. He toured solo for over 10 years before he recorded his first CD, and played with Richie Havens and Melanie. He moved to New York City in the late 70’s where he went through musician’s boot camp in the rich acoustic music community of Greenwich Village.
Long one of the most respected songwriters on the club scene, Eberhardt’s peers often mine his catalog for themselves. His song Memphis was recently included on “Cry, Cry, Cry,” an album of collaborative covers by the “folk supergroup” of the same name, comprised of Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, and Richard Shindell. Cliff has spent the past several years touring extensively, both solo and as part of the On A Winter’s Night tour with trusty side-kicks Patty Larkin, John Gorka, and Cheryl Wheeler. Eberhardt has been featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition, West Coast Live, E-Town, and Acoustic Café, and has been a repeat performer at the Newport and Kerrville Folk Festivals.
Cliff Eberhardt is a master craftsman delivering a simple but sophisticated message, leaving lots of room for contemplation, all the while accompanied by his trademark pop sensibilities – a catchy riff with a hummable melody which won’t leave your head even long after the CD player is off. Cliff currently lives in Northampton, Massachusetts, so it’s not often that Texas gets a taste of his remarkable live performance, and this is your first chance to catch him on the deck. Please join us for a wonderful evening of acoustic music as only Cliff Eberhardt can deliver.
Melissa Adams opens
We caught Melissa Adams in KPFT’s backyard a couple of months ago and knew immediately that we wanted to bring her to the deck. Melissa is a regular at several venues around town serving up her own special style of songs that hit so close to home you’ll wonder how she’s been reading your mail. Her CD, “Firefly,” has something for everyone from the lighthearted lament of “Miss Your Kissin'” to the punchy daydream of “CEO.” You’ll fall in love with Melissa Adams and you can take the CD home with you.
For the love of the song
