The deck has sported some incredible music in the past, and having Albert & Gage grace our stage continues that tradition. Christine Albert and Chris Gage, also known to many as Boxcars, blend powerful harmonies with sizzling instrumentals, and have been exciting festival, club, house concert and college audiences in the U.S. and Europe since 1996. Their music covers many styles…folk, country, blues, swing, rock, soul, bluegrass, even French chansons. Diverse, yes, but always presented with authentic style and flair.
Christine Albert is a beautiful woman with an amazing voice that shimmers and dances in English or French. She’s been the female vocalist of the year at the Kerrville Folk Festival, was founder of the Austin Songwriter’s Group and has appeared with her own band on Austin City Limits. Chris Gage is a powerhouse of talent, singing with strength and conviction, while masterfully sparking the duo with hot guitar, piano, and accordion. With numerous sideman and studio credits, he’s traveled with Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Roy Clark, appearing on the Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, and at Carnegie Hall. The teaming of these two remarkable talents has created Albert & Gage, a force capable of lighting the darkest Texas night sky.
Todd Hoke opens
We met Todd Hoke in one of the song circles here last year. His songs of Texas are inspiring and well crafted windows to the countryside. Since then, Ray Wylie Hubbard has produced his new CD confirming our impressions. We ran into Todd again in a song circle at Kerrville a couple of months ago. Todd Hoke is getting around spreading his message through his music and we’re pleased to welcome him back to the deck on center stage this time.
For the love of the song
