Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines

April 8, 2000
Last June, we received an e-mail from Tracie Ferguson, booking agent for Gruene Hall.  She recommended that we look into booking the hottest act of the year at Gruene, Terri Hendrix.  We wrote her back to tell her that we had just booked Terri.  Now, some ten months later, we proudly present Terri Hendrix on the deck.  Terri Hendrix has to be our favorite find of 1999, and once you experience her live performance you’ll understand why.  Terri has a style and delivery that you can’t help but love.  While her first smile will win you over, the versatility of her vocals and the skill of her pickin’ will amaze you.  Although relatively new to the Texas music scene, Terri is out there making music distinctly her own, like a breath of fresh air in the genre, and earning her spot alongside all the Texas legends.  Terri’s live performance exudes excitement with the playful energy and joy for the love of the music.  On stage, Terri has an incredible range spanning folk, blues, jazz, and roots while off stage her heart and spirit define the “girl next door” qualities of sincerity and beauty.  Critic Michael Corcoran of the Austin American-Statesman said, “If Terri Hendrix doesn’t sell a million records during the next five years, I’ll resign my post as pop music critic.”  Don’t miss this opportunity to see Terri on the deck while you still can.

These days, whenever Terri takes the stage, Lloyd Maines is there, and the TNHC deck will be no exception.  It is a true honor for us to be able to welcome Lloyd to our home and to be able to share his music with our friends.  Ray Wylie Hubbard has appropriately given Lloyd the title of “The Pope of Texas Music”.  Lloyd’s career, spanning nearly 30 years of Texas music, has included playing steel guitar with and/or producing such notable artists as Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Terry Allen, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, Loretta Lynn, The Bad Livers, James McMurtry, and the Dixie Chicks…just to name a few.  Lloyd Maines is a musicians musician respected throughout the industry for his skill and ability to bring out the best of every project he takes on.  Lloyd first met Terri Hendrix at the Fire House Studios in San Marcos, and shortly after that produced her second CD, Wilory Farm.  Lloyd says, “I liked Terri’s songs from the git-go because they struck me as true to life.”  They have collaborated and performed together ever since.  Lloyd Maines has worked with them all; he knows quality when he finds it.

Mason Laird opens
Last fall, we had a little party where Terri and Lloyd came to play.  A few weeks before the date, one of the co-hosts told me that he had booked an opener.  A friend had a 13 year old son that was going to play some keyboard.  We had never heard this kid before, so we weren’t expecting much.  On the day of the party, this young teen showed up with a funny hat and set up his keyboard.  When Mason Laird started playing, heads started turning and jaws started dropping.  Before the night was over, Terri and Lloyd asked Mason to join them on a couple of songs and requested that he open for them at TNHC.  Remember folks, Lloyd Maines requested Mason Laird as their opener…how much more endorsement do you need?  Mason will absolutely amaze you!

For the love of the song
