Get Lost in the Land of Texico
Texas grew as a blend of the culture, spirit, and spice of the surrounding territory including Mexico, New Mexico, and Louisiana. The result is a state of being that transforms one’s thoughts into the mystery, beauty and lifestyle that is the Land of Texico. Tom Faulkner captures the heart of Texico like none other with a wonderful blend of rock, blues, Tejano, and Zydeco served up with a soulful voice and individualistic spirit.
If you’re familiar with Faulkner’s music, you surely get it. If you’re not, you need to get it. This intimate concert will be your best chance to get it, and ultimately get lost. Here’s what a few have said:
“Faulkner crafts an opus as individualistic as the territory that inspired it.”
– The Dallas Morning News
“A sterling guitarist with a melancholy, sandstorm voice and a literary professor’s way with a phrase, Faulkner is a talent sparkling in intensity and vision.”
– The New London Day
“…only Tom Faulkner’s Texico – a sprawling state of mind that melds Cajun, Texan, and New Mexican seasonings with rural acoustic blues, pop balladry, country and folk-pop – is a territory whose borders are solely melodic.”
– Dallas Observer
This is fair warning….You don’t want to miss this show!
Concert review
Tom Faulkner
With Jamey Perrenot and Adrian Cabello
December 5, 1998
WOW, What a show! Tom Faulkner stuck by his word, and without a doubt, gave us the best show in town last night. We have so many people to thank for making TNC’s second show a great success and a wonderful night to remember. We would like to pass on some special thanks and a few of our thoughts as we reflect on what all happened here.
First, to Tom, Jamey, and Adrian. Guys, it’s such a treat to find music that touches us the way your music has. But, we were truly blessed with the opportunity to get to know the people behind the music and to find some new friends there. One of the highlights of our weekend was last night after the show when all the equipment had been packed. We sat around and talked to Tom, Jamey, and Adrian until almost 3:00 a.m. It was about the only time we had during the whirlwind weekend to relax and get to know each other a little better. You guys are the greatest! Thanks for knocking yourselves out to deliver a fantastic show that all could see came from your hearts. You’re welcome in our home anytime….let’s talk about your return to the TNC stage!
Next, a special thanks to Rick Heysquierdo for having Tom Faulkner on the show Saturday morning and helping us spread the word. Rick, thanks to you, we exceeded our goal for attendance, and expanded the TNC mailing list by approximately 25%! For those of you that don’t know Rick, he is THE Vaquero of Texas music. For as laid back and easy he makes Lone Star Jukebox sound every week, this guy really works hard to bring you the best show on the Houston airwaves. He has been a great supporter of what we’re trying to do with TNC… MUCHOS GRACIAS, Amigo!
Another special thanks has to go out to Bob Campbell, the Big Bad Big Leg BBQ Boss. Folks, this guy has hustled above and beyond the call of duty to help us get TNC off the ground over the past couple of months. He was here early firing up the grill again as Tom & the boys worked on their sound check. He was so impressed with the sound he stayed on the phone right up to showtime telling friends to cancel their plans because this was going to be a show they just couldn’t miss. It’s great to have friends like Bob that we know we can count on anytime we need some help (and what a cook, too!). Thanks for all your effort, Bob. You are truly appreciated.
We were also glad to have Gary Ashorn & Margo Whitt here last night capturing the moment on tape. For those of you that don’t know, they are working on a house concert documentary to spot light the interaction between artists, guests, and hosts at this type of venue. I know they got to talk to several of you during the show & they’ll be back for the next couple of shows. Hopefully, this will help spread the word further as the house concert movement spreads across the country.
Finally, our deepest thanks go out to all our guests last night. About half of you were here for the first time, many as a result of the radio spot on Saturday morning. We sincerely hope you enjoyed the experience and that you will all come back for many shows in the future. One of the nicest aspects of doing a house concert series is all the great new friends we’re able to make who share our love for music and the artists. We’re very grateful for the reactions we’ve had from you and all the help that has been offered. Once again, we had some great friends stick around and help with the clean-up after the show…what a treat! I told Beverly the really sad thing is that we had more clean-up that needed to be done before the show than we had left after the show! Thanks to all that helped so graciously…you know & we know who you are.
THANKS TO ALL!!! Now on to Girls with Guitars on February 6th….get your reservations in quickly. We don’t want to have to tell you, “Sorry, we’re sold out.”
For the love of the song,
Barney & Beverly
